LIMASSOL, LIMASOL or LEMESOS, is Cyprus' second largest city, its main port and fastest growing metropolis - the result is a clash of the old and the new that often surprises but sometimes disappoints. Limassol has the island's most important historical sites, its most notable old buildings and some of its ugliest suburbs.
Limassol may be second to Nicosia in size but it does have the country's main port, a huge military base nearby and a vigorous tourist industry. The landscape around the city port is of rolling hills that slowly rise from the coastal area to the Troodos Massif in the north, a tamed wilderness and the highest point on the island.

Limasol, ook gespeld als Limassol, (Grieks: Λεμεσός Lemesos) is een belangrijke havenstad op Cyprus. Het ligt aan de zuidkust van het eiland, aan de Middellandse Zee. De baai waaraan de stad ligt, heet de Baai van Akrotiri. Limasol is de op een na grootste stad van het eiland, in 2003 had de stad ongeveer 150. 000 inwoners. Het district Limasol, dat het zuidelijkste deel van het eiland beslaat, is naar deze stad genoemd.

Vanuit Limasol kan men andere steden op Cyprus, zoals de hoofdstad Nicosia, Larnaca en Paphos, eenvoudig per bus of taxi bereiken. Er rijden geen treinen op het eiland.

Limasol heeft twee havens, de oude en de nieuwe haven. De nieuwe haven is groot en belangrijk. Er zijn regelmatige bootverbindingen met andere steden aan de Middellandse Zee, zoals Rhodos, Haifa en Port Said. Men kan ook per cruiseschip naar deze bestemmingen varen. Op veel plekken in de stad vindt men kleine reisbureautjes waar men een dergelijke cruise naar Israël en Egypte kan maken.
Belangrijke bronnen van inkomsten van de stad zijn het toerisme en de wijnindustrie. Op 22 november 2008 werd in Limasol het Junior Eurovisiesongfestival georganiseerd.
