This island rises abruptly from a flat lake bottom about 20 m. deep, like a pyramid. Just the tip shows. It slopes gently to the north east end due to glacial grinding action years ago. The north west end is near vertical as the glaciers carried away fractured rock from there. Formations like this can be used as a compass.
