SCAM - they rent dirty damaged cars with hundreds of marks, tell you not to worry, then charge you for one of the marks on the car when you return it.

Abusive Charges - 234 euros for Mirror Scratch
I have rented a car in Avis (Palermo) through Auto Europe, for 2 days
a) - At the time of the car collection, the car was observed by a Avis employee, and no scratches were highlighted.
b) - At the return date, I was confronted with a scratch on the front mirror (driver’s side – File IMG 3815).
c) – I’m pretty sure I didn’t do this actively (I know I can be responsible for passive damages)
d) – I have cleaned the scratch for a bit (just with my hands), and the mark seems to have almost disappeared (File – IMG 3816).
e) – There was no sensibility/flexibility from the employee
f) – I have disagreed with the employee, that this scratch was under my responsibility.
g) – Even disagreeing with the employee, I was asked to sign a document (written in Italian), agreeing with a 234.24 EUR bill for the repair of the front mirror.

One star is a star too many!!
After our experience we will NEVER use them again. Upon return staff were rude, unhelpful & became angry when through no fault of our own we were a few minutes late, and well within the hour, due to being unable to park outside their office on a ridiculously busy main road, and then in a queue waiting to be served, we were then charged a whole days hire!! On return Monday to complain the manager as advised before the woman stomped off, he wad equally as rude but threatening too, demanding we hand in our hire documents aggressively without any explanation as to why he would need these. This He repeated numerous times. He then offered €25 voucher! (Which we difnt accept) an omission of guilt..... so a complaint to head office and travel guides will follow to avoid another poor tourist falling foul.
In Catania we spent over 20 minutes trying to find the car in their carpark after being packed off with a set of keys, no instructions and being stung up a further €244 which we felt bullied into taking out.

Super nice and helpful staff, there's more than one person at the counter so you don't have to wait long. Got a brand new car. I originally rented from Europcar which was awful and a scam and it was refreshing to work with such an easy breezy car rental agency They sold me, I only want to rent from Avis now. Also, location is great for getting to and exiting the city and they are open 6 days a week, which is hard to find in Italy.

Watch out as they will try to sell you all kinds of unnecessary add ons. Bashed and dirty car with no water in the windscreen wash. Avis should shut them down.
