Love this place, Herm would not be the same without it! The beer festivals are a genius idea.

I'm not sure there's a great deal of point reviewing The Mermaid as it's about the only pub you can go to! But, that being said, the beer is good and the outdoor seating area is fantastic. It's not a trip to Herm without a visit really.

Considering how busy it was here, we managed to snag a table in the corner.

Queuing for food orders was slightly slow, but time had barley passed before our food was served.

Portion size is best described somewhere between "generous" and "huge".

Staff were friendly and helpful.

Firstly, the food isn't that great. I had a burger and cajun chips. The burger was one of those frozen store deals, but the cajun chips were good and spicy. I'm glad I got that rather than the regular chips that my dining partner had - they were soggy and not very good. She had fish and chips, and the fish was also not the greatest. Despite that, it's the best place on the island to get a meal, the service was decent (although they got my order wrong - I ordered a pulled pork burger and got a regular hamburger), and their outside seating area has lots of space. No bathrooms here, so you have to use the public bathrooms just outside (and incidentally the only ones on the island!). 3 stars because a) it's the only game in town and b) decent outdoor seating area with a well stocked bar.

It is what it is, a great pub to find where because it has a captive audience they still provide a good service and don't extort the customer. The burgers are also great. Just the staff have to cover all areas of service and some are better than others when it comes to the pouring of pints.
