The hamlet of Agiades. Ancient Pythagoreio was supplied with water from Agiades' source via terracotta pipes. The first 800 m in underground ducts following the winding contours of the terrain to the hill in the background, where the pipes entered the Eupalinos tunnel, built in 530 B.C., 1036 m long, and 170 m below the top of the hill (where you can see the remains of the old city walls of Pythagoreio). At the other side of the hill the water was conveyed to the city's cisterns. - Samos Airport fotogalerij
