If I could give this place negative five stars, I would. Please, whatever you do, rent a car from someplace else in Berlin, if you value your time & money. Here is our experience: we were in Berlin during a bad storm, named Xavier, in October of 2017. Because there were no taxis and all public transport was closed due to the storm--Berlin was in a state of emergency--we could not get to Hertz to pick up our rental car at 6 pm on the night arranged (in the storm, it would have been impossible to). We called Hertz, and the woman at Hertz who answered the phone promised us she'd hold our car & we could pick it up the next morning.

When we arrived at the arranged time the next day to pick up our car, a nasty, officious, & haughty woman working the desk at Hertz said they had given our car away to someone else, & they would have no cars for the entire weekend, due to the trains, flights, and other transportation being out due to the storm causing a high demand for rental cars. We told her we'd been promised that our car would be held till the next day, & we had an appointment to pick it up, & she just shrugged & said "We have no cars." We had spent $30 on an uber to get there to pick up our car. No apology from her, nothing, just her repeating that Hertz had given our car away, as if we should somehow have known this ahead of time.

We had a very important work appointment that we had to miss, in addition to the loss of the uber money, because she had given away our contracted car. If Hertz had even called & let us know they had given our car away, we could have tried to make other plans. And the woman working at 11:30 am at October 6 at the desk at Hertz Europa was as entirely nasty as she could be. I will never use Hertz again, in any country, & if you value actually getting your car as contracted, I would not use this Hertz at Europa in Berlin. I have never been treated this badly by a rental car company, & I use them often, in many different countries.

Wow! I am now posting three weeks after the above review. We looked at our credit card statement today and this Hertz had charged us $350 for NOT CANCELING OUR CAR. My husband had to call (Yes, international call) and explain that their office had canceled on our reserved car, leaving us on the verge of missing business appointments the following day (thank you Sixt, for coming for our rescue). As he explained that Hertz had given away our reserved car, which we arrived to pick up at the time they had designated, leaving us totally in the lurch, the person on the other end just kept saying, Well, YOU didn't cancel it. Oh my God. This was Kafka-esque. Again, no apologies whatever. Nothing. These people are horrible. Stay away if you value your time and travel plans and your sanity.

Beware of Hertz Berlin offices and some of its particular employees! Tegel Airport specifically!
They are scammers and will try to ripe you off! Don't get me wrong as I am a frequent, long term Hertz Gold customer, mostly very happy with Hertz services, but this particular office is running some shady insurance businesses (aka frauds), especially on "American" tourists.
I personally think it is just a handful of employees involved in this scam: Someone takes over a car from you upon returning, with some other "affiliates" involved in this scam later on during the process.
It usually goes like this: Upon returning a vehicle they will find what ever they can, whatever, like in my case case tiny little "dent" in the size of dime on rear right bumper, which was hardly visible, not even affecting paint, basically barely noticeable, and which was very likely already there before my rental. Btw I checked the car, as I always do, but I wouldn't notice this "damage" even if I knew what I am looking for.
Then, once they draw attention to this - something-somewhere - they let you leave, believing this will be managed later via regular damage reviewing process etc. I believe they assume you simply need to return car and go for airport to jump on your plane and won't pay much attention later on to the extra charges.
While they will start their damage claim process as soon as you leave, usually the very same day, while immediately charging your credit card for approx 1000 EUR initially, or even more. I've seen comments about similar practices on various travelers portals. Quite a few ppl were ripped exactly the same way with damages charges always around 1000 EUR for something-nothing.
And even though I'm always insured via 3rd party and they -Hertz- were aware of it and shouldn't charge my credit card without authorization at all, the did it anyway.
Upon finding this "surprise" in email with final charges from Hertz, I filled insurance claim immediately and disputed this amount as it was charged without my authorization. My insurance company was proactively trying to resolve insurance event/claim, while crediting this "extra" charges back to my account, but this particular office won't usually respond, won't provide requested documents, even after several escalations (this had taken over 6 moths already and has not been resolved to this day), later they won't cash check(s) sent to them once claim is processed, while at the same time they enforce debt collection from the renter (you, me) via various Hertz debt collections affiliates, both in Europe and in USA.
!!! So be very aware of insurance scam you may run into there !!!
and btw, you're welcome :)

and Dear Hertz Berlin,
I am more than willing to provide you with documentations and various facts supporting all the above, and assist you with putting things in order.
But I sincerely hope for the sake of your customers and your own reputation, you have remediated situation on your own already.

Great service. I was two hours late for pick up and they upgraded me several classes for a one week rental. Great!

I have rented a car at Hertz office Europa Center Budapesterstr. I was a bit worried but I must honestly say that my experience was very good. They all speak english, pick up and returning operation are fast, I got a brand new car exceeding my expectations, I received the deposit back in about ten days. I paid less than their usual prices because I am and ADAC member. I think I will rent with them again.
