Very quick, very expedient.
I returned a car here, 45 minutes before my flight took off. The employees here were very quick, efficient, and friendly. My customer service agent, Mirjana, calmly and politely helped an irate customer ahead of me, and had me on my way in no time.
It was a little unclear, but this is actually across the road from the airport. Go straight, not into the paid lot, from Split, and the return area is in a small orange building on the left. The map's pin directed me all the way to the wrong side of the airport.
Again, great service.

Long story short: I booked a car rental through Expedia with Sixt: 600 Euros for 2 weeks (VW Golf). At the airport when picking up the car, Sixt agent advised that I need to purchase insurance as well. I got a quote from him for Basic insurance with $1,500 deductible for theft and collision - 600 Euros EXTRA for 2 weeks. Liability is supposedly included already (it was hard to understand the explanation of coverages). Anyways, I decided to decline the extra insurance. He wanted to put a hold on my credit card for $7,000 since I declined. Both of my credit cards with available limit did not go through. I called the bank (45 minutes) and found out they don't even see the transaction being declined, so they must have been doing something wrong with the terminal. I don't know about you, but to me its looks like a way to push the sale. So, the only other way, was to call Expedia (1 hour) and cancel the whole car rental. Gladly there's free wifi at the airport. I went downstairs and got the same car with insurance included (600 Euros total - as opposed to 1,200) from company called Unirent or something like that. Moral of the story: SIXT (company or agents at this particular airport) don't like when you book cars through other providers. No options left for you, but to buy costly insurance.
