American diner style breakfast with large portions at a good price. The pancakes are big, batter-y and flavorful and their standard breakfast hits the spot. Beware that this place does get quite busy though.

Two thoughts:
1. Food is great here - most satisfying BLT in the city.
2. The staff can be rude, but that is the charm of the restaurant and part of its history. Seriously, if you don't like it, go somewhere else - I will get a table faster.

This place is not for everyone. If you don't like it, though, I'm not sure I want to know you. If you've ever wished you could just get up and get your own coffee or water at a restaurant rather than flag down someone for such a menial task, then you will love the freedom here. If you like to banter with your waiter and rub elbows with strangers while making new friends, you will feel right at home. Menu is funny and the food is inventive while still offering the staples of a good diner. Food is prices on the high side of normal. Go there for the experience, not necessarily for the food.

Good food and slightly expensive, direct if not downright rude staff.
I was not expecting the gruff and rude behavior from the waiter and it caught me off guard. I soon realized that was their schtic, and just rolled with it. Other customers seems to enjoy it. I recommend reading the rules posted above the kitchen in chalk, it will save you some grief.
I was concerned about the use of expletives near a table with a small boy, 3 or 4, who was a little frightened of the waiter. There is a warning about this included in the aforementioned rules posted above, so consider bringing children elsewhere if this concerns you.
In the end, I enjoyed the breakfast and the atmosphere. The coffee was quite good, even if you have to get your own refills ( read the rules about this or you will get yelled at).
Without swearing near the kid, and if it had been a little less expensive it would have received 5 stars from me.

A group of four guys aged 17 looking for a local, fresh place to eat downtown Vancouver. We are outside of the restaurant looking for something to eat. The cafe looks warm and welcoming. As we open the door, we are BOMBARDED by the staff, yelling at us to read the sign ( a tiny sign ) that tells us to wait outside. Five staff yelling at a couple of teenagers. We will NEVER come back.
