The purpose of that thin strip of land is no longer obvious. Until 1959 the Galop Canal ran on this side of it for canal boats running between Montreal and the Great Lakes, while the Long Sault rapids roared on the other side. The St.Lawrence Seaway flooded the rapids in 1958 making the river suitable for ocean going vessels. - Iroquois Airport fotogalerij
