Quirky service, I liked it, some may find it a bit in your face.

Probably the absolute worst restaurant myself and the other three people with me have ever been to. The night started with poor communication with the waiter/owner and a complete lack of comprehension of what celiac disease is (a simple wheat intolerance that every waiter/chef should be educated on whether they're 80 or 20) that left us trying to find our way through the lack of communication skills for 10 minutes to make sure that my friend spent her birthday being NOT sick. After we had ordered our mains in a confusingly bad conversation, me and my other friend went inside to clarify the celiac point to the owner/chef in a polite manner (who insisted that cream had wheat in it). This check resulted in the owner getting overly defensive about a simple question and telling us over and over that he had been in the restaurant business for 55 years, he wasnt stupid and somehow kept a frown on his face the whole time. Charming.

After an hour or so long wait our meals were served to us and it took a grand total of 10 seconds for my celiac friend to give a look after she tasted the meal that can only be described as downright discomfort and horror. In her own words, the dish was bland, had a nasty aftertaste and had near no meat in it. After another few minutes this became the general consensus around the table, but wasnt enough to make me stop eating my meal. However, the event that made me stop eating my porterhouse was when we watched a cockroach scurry out of the restaurant and past our table; that was when I decided the porterhouse wasnt worth it and promptly spat out the mouthful of steak I had into their "classy" choice of 8 dollar pot plants.

This was around about the point when we went inside and complained to the owner/chef and informed him that we would not be paying for the abysmal excuse of a meal that had been served. He then spent the next 20 minutes arguing over the quality, fighting and telling us how our meals tasted, going from being polite one minute to telling us we were the cruelest type of thieves on the planet for barely touching our meals and politely asking for a refund. During this period while I was with the owner and my best friend, one of the owner's friends (not even an employee) approached my celiac friend and threatened her saying that they were going to hurt her and follow her to her house. Once I approached him and told him that he needed to leave, he even pulled the race card to try and insult me and intimidate us and insisted that he never even threatened my celiac friend (then promptly told me the Sicilian mafia were coming for me)

After we left, this restaurants stain on our night continued slightly longer. It turns out that even after explaining our celiac friend's allergy to the Chef/Owner he had not only proceeded to put flour in the sauce but while he had had his rant about being in the restaurant business earlier in the night, he had done so with a box of gluten free pasta in his hand that looked like it had been stuffed under a sink for a few years judging by the mould on it. This consequently gave a celiac an allergic reaction -AND- food poisoning on her birthday.

All in all, the restaurant was an abysmal experience with staff that if recognised me in the street would likely attack me like rabid dogs. The whole experience ended with our polite complaints being met with a go to hell as we walked out the door away from easily the worst restaurant in the entire Perth Metropolitan Area, if not the whole of WA.

No wonder the cockroach was leaving.
