It's always had a great location with a fantastic view.I used to come here for breakfast every now and then from 1991 to 2005 when it was known as the World's Best Beach Cafe.Sadly when my wife and I wanted to treat our friends to a fine breakfast during our honeymoon in June,2006 it was closed for redevelopment. We moved to California a few months later.Fast forward to July,2013 and by chance we happened to rent an apartment in Lawson Street during our Australian vacation and across the street was the sign for the Byron Beach Cafe.It had re-opened.We had breakfast there our first morning in Byron Bay...bright and early at 7.30pm when it opens. It has been remodeled quite extensively and has probably lost more than a bit of it's previous outdoor charm. We sat ourselves down at a table upfront with a big view.Waiter service was very, very slow to arrive. When I enquired about the delay I was told they still weren't sure how many staff were showing up due to sickies. That's not my problem! We both ordered the Bangalow breakfast, cappuccinos and an orange juice. They've definitely gone gourmet style as opposed to the previous owner's mode of humongous breakfast on a huge plate. The cappuccinos were enjoyable but very small. In fact so small I ordered a second one.Our meals were very well presented and tasted quite nice.My orange juice was adequate but didn't taste fresh. The bill was around $65 which considering the very average, unsmiling service we endured was a bit rich.It was almost as if you were doing them a favor showing up.In the old days you ordered at the front counter, paid up front and they brought it to you with a big smile.Times have changed...they are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner now.The joint is now licensed, the car park outside has been asphalted and fitted with a parking meter. They were even closed to the public on the Saturday evening due to a wedding reception booking. It's a nice view but it doesn't have the same magical charm...the who's that sitting over there reading the newspaper mystery about it anymore. What a shame!

Wow from the moment you step in the setting and beach views are just stunning. Come during sunset and relax over very well executed Italian done simply. Delicious. Our waitress was very knowledgeable and attentive. Recommended!

I had lunch at beach today and dined alone. I sat for too long before I was asked if I would like to order, mind you I hadn't even ordered a drink yet. I had to ask if there was any bread or specials available. I had the antipasto board, followed by tiramisu ( a desert fork would have been good instead of a whopping big spoon ) and coffee. I finished desert and coffee and went to the bathroom and by the time I came back to the table it had been cleared and wiped !
The food and coffee were great, but service wasn't good. Staff in general were unfriendly and need to pick up their game. They all looked unhappy and no one offered another wine or asked how the food was.
Disappointed, considering the lovely location and overpriced for the quality of service.

Amazing food, I'm happy to pay a good price if the food is the best damn food I have EVER tasted! Incredible 😍 Dinner service was also exceptional mr and my husband both loved it

Disappointing breakfast for 4 today. After being seated at a lovely table with a gorgeous view, we were hoping for more. An unappealing breakfast menu with no bacon in any dish, only available for $6 extra as a side, was the start. OJ was a medium glass filled to the brim with ice and a drizzle of juice from concentrate - 2 slurps and it's finished. Service could improve, had to chase wait staff for a drink that hadn't arrived, cutlery that staff noticed wasn't there but didn't replace until we chased again and had to flag them down for a second coffee order. $19 for a bacon and egg burger that was served with aoili as the only condiment was dry and tasteless. Staff did bring tomato relish on request which really made it quite nice and should have been on there in the first place. Overall, our group was hoping for more for $121 for 4 people for breakfast. Would not return and could not recommend, unfortunately. A real shame, given the gorgeous location!
