The CBD cafe was our choice for a quick lunch whilst browsing through the streets of Albany. On arrival a suitable table for 5 was located inside the cafe between a wall and the counter where the highchairs and magazines were stored. The menu was not exciting but we ordered garlic bread to start then fettucine, steak sandwich and scallop and chorizo salad. Our fellow travellers ordered chicken and prawns and a steak sandwich. Nothing complicated with the order except the staff tried to charge extra for the garlic bread and then argued that it the correct price. Once she was shown the menu with the price of $6 she admitted her mistake. The garlic bread arrived promptly and surprise surprise it was sufficient slices for each of us to have one slice each - my hopes were high. The whole experience went down hill from that point. Whislt patiently waiting for our main order we noted various staff wandering around clearing tables and tidying. One older waitress (her admission not ours) bought a highchair back inside and rather than push it in behind us and constrict us more she left it to one side, out of the way. Within twenty minutes another waitress grabbed the said highchair said "excuse me guys" and pushed the highchair into the narrow space behind our chairs. Not pleasant. We continued to wait and wait and wait. No staff came to us to explain why the delay, in fact another customer was at the counter complaining of the wait and demanded her money back (which she received) to feed hungry kids elsewhere. We persisted - and we waited. Overall we waited nearly 1.5 hours. The first of five meals arrived and they were cold. Then twenty minutes later the next three meals arrived. They were not exciting at all, no imagination into any of the meals. A steak sandwich in turkish bread should warrant the bread being toasted and more than a teaspoon of onion jam plonked in the centre of the beef jerky steak as hubby called it. Chicken and prawns was not brilliant, prawns should be butterflied for presentation and each prawn was burnt on one side (?). Fettucine was swimming in oil - a ravenous teenager boy could not even demolish this - so you know it was less than ideal. As for the chorizo and scallop salad - lets just say no imagination was used at all. I think the chef took the dressing from a caesar salad and drenched a cup of lettuce roughly torn then added some sliced chorizo and six scallops and that was it. Not interesting at all. Note to chef - please clean the grill or frypan between each meal as the chorizo and scallops had picked up the char from the prawns, though it was only on one side?
This is not a cafe I would recommend for quality of service or food.
