Moroccon cuisine is elaborate and spectacular in presentation. The popular local delicacies are Couscous (semolina, served with eggs, chicken, lamb or vegetables), Djaja Mahamara (chicken stuffed with raisins, almonds, and semolina), Tajine (an aromatic lamb or chicken stew) and Mchoui (pit-roasted mutton). Popular desserts are Kab-el-ghzal (almond pastry) and Pastilla (rich, pigeon-meat pastry). Meals are washed down with fresh Mint Tea.
De stad al-Ajoen (Arabisch: العيون, Frans: Laâyoune, Spaans: El Aaiún) is de officiële hoofdstad van de Arabische Democratische Republiek Sahara (ADRS), een voormalige Spaanse kolonie die nu voornamelijk in Marokkaanse handen is. Ook al-Ajoen wordt bezet door Marokko. Het feitelijke bestuurlijke centrum van de ADRS is derhalve de interimhoofdstad Bir Lehlou, die wel in handen is van de ADRS.
De stad heeft een bevolking van rond de 198. 200 inwoners en is de grootste stad in de Westelijke Sahara.
"El Aaiún" is de Spaanse transliteratie van de stadsnaam, "Laâyoune" is een Franse transliteratie die wordt gebruikt in Marokkaanse literatuur. De Arabische naam betekent "de bronnen".
